Nomad Autoscaler 0.6.0 Released

We are excited to announce the release of Nomad Autoscaler 0.6.0. This release includes the following changes.

Features:

  • Instana APM plugin - A new APM plugin enables Nomad Autoscaler to use Instana infrastructure metrics as a source for autoscaling decisions. The plugin supports authentication via the api_token config key or the INSTANA_API_TOKEN environment variable.

Improvements:

  • Enhanced Nomad node grouping support - The Nomad APM plugin now supports grouping nodes by datacenter, node_pool, or combinations of multiple pool identifiers in node pool queries. Previously, only node_class was supported.

  • jsonencode(...) support in file-based policies - File-based scaling policies can now use jsonencode(...), including within fields such as check.query. This simplifies authoring and maintaining complex JSON queries by allowing native HCL objects instead of escaped JSON strings.

Bug Fixes:

  • Policy evaluation recovery - Fixed an issue where policy handlers were not recreated for unchanged policies after the policy manager recovered from an unrecoverable source error. This could cause existing policies to stop being evaluated until they were modified.

  • Safer node termination after draining - Fixed an issue where instances could be terminated immediately after drain completion. The autoscaler now waits until all tasks on the node have fully stopped before terminating the instance, preventing lifecycle tasks from being interrupted.
