Nomad Driver Exec2 v0.2.0 Released

Dear All,

We are excited to announce the release of Nomad Driver Exec2 v0.2.0. This release includes the following changes.

Features

  • Linux ambient capabilities — A new allow_caps plugin configuration option, together with the cap_add and cap_drop task config options, lets operators and job authors selectively grant Linux ambient capabilities to exec2 tasks.

  • Host and CSI volume mounts — exec2 tasks can now use Nomad volume/ volume_mount blocks to mount host and CSI volumes.

  • nomad alloc exec support — exec2 tasks now support nomad alloc exec, including interactive shells (nomad alloc exec -t) and Consul/Nomad script health checks.

Breaking Change

  • Explicit task working directory — The task working directory is now explicitly set to NOMAD_TASK_DIR, matching Nomad’s built-in exec and raw_exec drivers. Jobs using relative args (e.g. args = [“local/run.sh”]) must switch to absolute paths (e.g. command = “${NOMAD_TASK_DIR}/run.sh”).

Improvements

  • Configurable working directory — A new optional work_dir task config field lets you override the default current working directory. It accepts an absolute path or a path relative to the task directory parent.

  • RSS memory reporting on cgroups v2 — Task memory stats now report RSS on cgroups v2 systems.

Bug Fixes

  • Permission denied for /proc/self/mountinfo— Fixed permission denied when a task reads files under /proc (e.g. r:/proc/self/mountinfo) via an explicit unveil entry.

  • Tasks failing after host reboot — Fixed exec2 tasks failing to restart after a host reboot.

  • Mount propagation — Fixed mount propagation so host mounts created after a task starts (e.g. autofs) remain visible to the task, while task-internal mounts stay isolated from the host.

  • GOMAXPROCS over-threading — Fixed GOMAXPROCS to prevent Go workloads from being over-threaded against the host CPU capacity.

  • Missing shim error output — Error messages from the unshare/nsenter shim processes now appear in the allocation logs.

Please report any issues found to GitHub or this list.

As usual, a shout-out to the community for bug reports and PRs.

Thank you,

The Nomad Team
