Info about Consul setup model on PaaS

Hello.
Hoping on HashiCorp engineers support, I would like vendor point of view.

We are interested to use Consul and Vault product togheter on a PaaS infrastructure.
About Consul we are evaluating two different setup model:

  1. as PaaS component on Kubernetes as suggested on https://www.consul.io/docs/platform/k8s/run.html
  2. as sidecar container to use it only for that services that need it.

Clearly the first model is the best solution for Consul as PaaS product but beyond the opportunity to use the first or second setup model we would like to know if HashiCorp evaluate “sidecar container” model as production grade for just that services that need it. Otherwise could you explain which risks are we facing.
