Does Vault enforce a specific VAULT_ADDR base URI?

Are there any strict rules on the VAULT_ADDR part? Or are you free to use any format you’d like:

htt://ENV.vault.COMPANY.com/path
htt://whatever.com/vault/rest/of/path
